March 2016Persons, Symbols and Narratives:

An Interdisciplinary Conference

On March 2 and 5 2016 the Xu-Ricci Institute organized a conference on the notion of “Person” in Chinese and Western contexts. Cai Hua (Beijing University), Bruno Karsenti (EHESS), Roberte Hamayon (EPHE), Xie Jing, Zhang Zili and Benoit Vermander (Fudan University) crisscrossed philosophical and anthropological insights on the uses and misuses of the concept as well as on the way “symbols” and “narratives” may be mobilized when describing processes of personal construction. The thought of Edmond Ortigues was the departure point from which the participants and the public investigated the “Person’ as a nexus of ever-evolving meanings
