Workshop: Xu Guangqi and modern China

The Xu-Ricci Institute and Xujiahui Municipality Cultural Affairs Bureau present an international workshop on "Xu Guangqi and modern China”, May 10-11 2012

Xu Guangqi (1562-1633) was a statesman, a scientist, and a well-known friend of Mateo Ricci, with whom he translated Euclides' Elements of Geometry. He was also a profound thinker, whose original synthesis of Neo-Confucianism and Christianity has exerted a great deal of influence on modern China. The symposium organized by the Xu-Ricci Institute and Xujiahui Municipality aims at recapturing the nature and channels of his intellectual influence.
